Results of the Chinese Calligraphy Competition 2016

Thank you to all that took part, certificates and prizes will be presented on the 11th of December to all students listed below.

This October, Hua Hsia Chinese School will be holding a Chinese Calligraphy Competition with the aim to promote Chinese culture and Mandarin language learning. We want to encourage the practice of writing Chinese characters, the technique, as well as cultivate the personal interest of the learners. 

 

Details of the competition: 

1. Deadline for application: 18 November 2016 

2. Age groups: Junior group: (Age 8 or below); Intermediate group: (Age 9 to 14); Senior group (Age15 or above) 

3. Categories: I. Chinese Brush II. Pen/ Pencil 

4. Regulations: 

For the penpencil group: please use the submission form provided by Hua Hsia Chinese School (below). The form can be printed from Hua Hsia’s school website. 

 

For the Chinese brush group: participant will use Chinese Calligraphy paper with the school name, student name, age, contact number, address and email address written on the back of the page (using ball pen). The Chinese Calligraphy paper can be purchased online (e.g. Amazon). 

 

Junior Group: Copy the poem 雜詩節選 (see appendix 1). Traditional Chinese Version (see appendix 2). 

Intermediate Group: Copy the first chapter of 小草節選 (see appendix 1). Traditional Chinese Version (see appendix 2). 

Senior Group: Copy the poem終南別業節選 (see appendix 1). Traditional Chinese Version (see appendix 2). 

Submitted works will not be returned. 


 
 

5. Submission of Application: All entries should be sent to the following address before the deadline 18th November 2016: Hua Hsia Chinese School (98 The Broadway, London, NW7 3TB) 

 6. Selection Panel: All applications will be shortlisted by the Selection Panel which base their decisions on a comprehensive assessment. There will be three judges (senior teachers). 

7. Calligraphy Judging Criteria: 

• Lines straight, letters well spaced, forms consistent 

• Relatively low density of errors compared to the piece as a whole 

• Neatness of finished work (neatness, ink density, etc.) 

• General proportioning (layout, proportion, balance, margins, etc.) 

• Successful integration of personal embellishments and symbolism 

8. Awards: Each group will have a 1st Prize, 2nd Prize & 3rd Prize plus Merit awards. Each winner will obtain a certificate. The 1st place winner will get a £30 prize, 2nd place winners a £15 prize, and 3rd place winners £5 prize. 

9. Prize Presentation Date: Results to be announced by the end of November 2016

Hua Hsia Chinese Calligraphy Competition WINNERS LIST is here!!! Winners from Hua Hsia Chinese School will be presented the Certificate and Awards this weekend. Winners from other schools please contact us on 020 8201 0698 and we will arrange a time for you to collect your Award at our school.
